Target Knockoffs at Goodwill!

Hey, Islanders!  Once Labor Day passes, I get in the mood to nest.  I want to clean and cook and bake and, well, that means lots of goodies for you!  It's kind of ironic to feel like nesting because I usually kickoff my nesting season with a good purchase and, currently, I'm on a home decor shopping break for awhile.  The house is at a done state but, not to worry, I've got lots to share!

Today, I'm sharing a recent thrifty find.  It's from Goodwill and I love love LOVE it.  I've shared some family room updates.  We've talked about this room's paint, the photo gallery, thrifty finds and some of the artwork and furniture.  I was pretty pleased with most of the family room; it's coming along nicely.  I felt, however, like one area was missing something.

Can you see that wall area on the other side of the fireplace in the photo above?  It just seemed like a blank canvas... Don't get me wrong, I love a blank wall and use intentional decor on my walls but this space felt like it was waiting on SOMETHING.  I thought of creating a large scrabble board using canvases and wooden letters to connect words like family, love, fun, etc. After careful consideration, I decided it might distract from the feature wall of photos.

31 Days - The Game Cabinet.

Earlier this summer, I tackled the pile of junk that was the game cabinet.  

When we purchased the home, I was so excited for the storage opportunities it provided.  I decided to put many of our things in the rooms where they would used.  In the case of the family room, I wanted to be sure the supplies for family game night were readily available.

These supplies include board games, cards, Wii supplies and movies.  Over time, however, out-of-cycle seasonal decor and random toys took over the closet.  It was a mess.  The movies were still upstairs and, in their place, wrapping paper, Santa figurines, Easter bunnies, baby supplies for our little guests... the closet was a mess.

One night, I was tired of it. I decided to clean it out and (two hours later) BOOM!

One space - DONE!  Let's break down how items are sorted, shall we?

From the photo above, you can see I kept things Munch accesses regularly on the lower shelves.  The baskets on the bottom hold card games and Wii supplies.  The middle shelf holds board games.  The shelf above the games holds DVDs and CDs.  The top shelf and floor area holds out-of-cycle decor (holiday and random pieces).

It works, it functions... it makes my heart smile to know it's CLEAN :)

Snapshot Sunday

So, yesterday we talked about recent updates to the dining room and I realized there have been some changes to the family room.  Nothing major but DEF some changes for sure.

We last spoke about the family room when I shared my cheap artwork and the pillows (here) about a month or so ago, right?  As I said then, I was happy with where the family room was going.  I admit, however, there was one thing driving me bonkers - the area under the television.

Hubbs and I took care to mount the t.v. and to eliminate the wires.  We hung it (and hid wires) before Christmas.  I wanted my mantle for our stockings and the pain in my neck from leaning back to look so high up was annoying.  So, we did it and it looked great.  It was great.  We had the cable box and, at times, the PlayStation sitting on top of my antique chest and some stacked baskets but... eh, it was better, right? 

Family Room Update - New Art

I'm going to take a break from the craft room updates in an effort to complete some tasks.  As usual 'round these parts, we'll come back to it for updates, tutorials and the big reveal (I think I'm actually going to have one with this space, yeee-ahhh boy).  Anyhoo, I shared the craft room artwork that set the tone for the space and I thought I'd share a new fave piece of mine in the family room.

 

I visit Ross on a pretty-frequent basis for a number of items (it's cookout season and they have the best less-than-$5 selection of clothes when Munch needs a cute fresh 'fit for cheap).  I especially love to check out their wall décor because they offer affordable options that pack a big punch.  O and their pillows!  Golly, I luhhh me some pillows.  I got this peacock pillow (with fab embroidery) for only $16.  I know that price isn't typically a deal in my book but, when you see and feel the quality of it, you can tell I got it for a steal:

 

 

In the case of our family room, I have a lot of walls. Large walls.  Walls that sometimes feel huge. Humungo, if you will.  Huge and intimidating for a thrifty decorator like myself.  Remember my gallery wall? 

Family Room Update - Accent Wall

I've been on work-related travel all this week.  I miss home when I'm away... I returned late Thursday night and I could DEFINITELY tell my fam missed me too :)

 

 

Hubbs bought the grill I've been telling him about and had dinner waiting for me. He did a massive amount of yard work including re-mulching the front lawn, blowing debris and cleaning gutters. He cleaned the garage and the house was still clean.  YO! I was pleasantly surprised, lol.  On TOP of doing a good job with Munch's hair and handling all of the after-school tasks (homework, studying, Reading and Math practice, cooking dinner, etc.), he took care of tasks on his delinquent honey-do list - can't be mad at that.  The man has kicked housework into gear; he's inspired me!
