Day 10 - Marital Tune-Up

This guy I married gets on my nerves.

Did you gasp like I imagined you would?  I feel bad for saying it because everyone in blog world is all happy and kissy face and UGH.  Gimme a break.  Surely, I'm not the only one who isn't that couple we all love to hate... You know, the kind who share straws and eat off of each other's plates (I wish that fool would reach his fork over here).  Yea, we're not them.  It seems like the end of every summer leaves me annoyed with that man I married.

WHY do you drape your jacket over my sofa when you come in?

WHY do you eat all of Munch's snacks?

WHY can I smell your funky gym shoes?

WHY did you forget to take the trash out?

WHY is doing the dishes literally ONLY doing the dishes?

WHY?!

His typical response? Usually a shrug and an "I don't know" or a tap on the butt "'cuz you love me."

*EYE ROLL*

Love is wearing real thin after I've worked all day, raced to get the kid, hurried home to cook the food, clean up, help with homework, find clothes, wash butts, comb hair, wash clothes (I didn't say fold OR put away)... etc.  LOVE? What's love got to do with ALLLLLL that?

I've reached a point where little things have become HUGE in my mind.  I find myself bitter, angry, annoyed, frustrated and, dangit, mama is tired.  Every conversation goes back to that fact:

Mama is tired.

I know he gets annoyed and it's around this time every year that we require a marital tune-up.  Now, maybe to you happy-go-lucky people this post is French but I know my real life is full of bumps and bruises...

Marriage takes work and I'm happy to report that we've both committed to work on it.

Here's a list of things I'm going to work on:

- Positive reinforcement.  I will show my gratitude for the great man he is to me (focus on the positive to live in the positive)
- Biting my tongue until it bleeds. I have a smart mouth and I've got to control it more often.
- Handling what I can when I can.  I will no longer pressure myself to get it all done all the time.  I've started to sit still more often and I've found there's more time for *insert creepy eyebrows* hugs and such ;)

Well, there you go.  The down and dirty of mine.  Now, islanders, we're *like* friends for life... You know my ugly truth (of the minute) and I promise to report back on this topic (even after the 31 days series).

All relationships need a tune-up from time to time.

What are you doing to work on yours?

  1. Right now mine is to not take personally what he says when he is frustrated with school and such. Because he doesn't mean it; however, it is hard. But you are right-marriage is work. And so very much worth the work. :)

*taps mic* Does this thing even work anymore?  Can you hear me in the back? So, the last we spoke, I was sharing a random find.  If...
